The Most Influential Women in Payments Class of 2020 honors 26 women from across the globe and in all aspects of the payments industry. This includes women who work with startups, banks, retailers, investors and the payments networks. This year, Uma Wilson was recognized and honored as part of this prestigious group of women for the change and impact she’s had on the payments industry.

As part of the recognition, honorees were asked to share their story and explain how they got to where they are in the industry and career – Uma says she owes her success to her teammates and mentors. She believes it’s vital to learn how to work as a team and a significant aspect of that is providing feedback and being patient. Uma also admits that in the early phases of her career, it was difficult for her not to be constantly pushing for the next step, but through these experiences, she learned the importance of working to succeed in the role you are in. Her advice is to work to be the best in your current position, and the next step will come to you.

Uma also believes it’s important to build up those around you – if your team is successful, then you will be successful. She says she owes a lot of her success to her mentors at UMB who have not only challenged her but have also shown her how to anticipate questions, ask for what she needs and position herself the right way to accomplish her goals.

We applaud Uma for her success and passion and are proud of her accomplishments, including this recognition. Read here to learn more about what Uma and the other women who were recognized are doing to advance the payments industry.
