Have you ever been asked this? It was a first for me.

I recently had the opportunity to help recognize this year’s Kansas City Business Journal’s Champions of Business honorees—as one of the presenters, they asked me to pick a walk-up song for when I made my way to the podium. When I thought about the event and why we were there, the first song that began playing in my head was Eye of the Tiger. And after thinking on it for a while, I decided it was perfect for the occasion. This is why.

These 15 organizations joined an elite group of companies recognized for their business and civic excellence, and for the positive impact they have on our city. I figured that the best way to reinforce their success was with Survivor’s lyrics—they have all gone the distance and have “risen up to the challenge.” These companies embody the best of what our business community offers.

Recognition is an important part of our culture at UMB and as the presenting sponsor for the event, this allows us to extend that philosophy in the community and to help share these stories with other businesses and leaders. We understand the value that companies honored as Champions of Business Kansas City provide to our city and believe in showcasing the great work they’re doing.

These awards celebrate outstanding achievements and our hope is that highlighting these hometown successes will inspire and push us all to keep progressing, growing and doing all we can to help elevate the business community and KC as a whole.
