Making a Difference: UMB Kicks off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Mobile Mammography Screenings
Did you know approximately one in eight women will develop breast cancer over the course of her lifetime? That is a staggering statistic and one that prompted UMB Bank to team up with the Siteman Cancer Center to help educate women about their health and provide access to screenings.
In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our UMB Bank team here in St. Louis recently brought a mobile mammogram van to our downtown office to offer screenings to women in the community. Our goal was to make a difference, and we are proud to say we did.
By working with the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine, we helped to ensure women have greater access to preventative care by making mammography screenings more convenient. The event was a huge success, and we screened twice as many women this year than we did in 2018.
Another noteworthy development we saw this year was that four women came in for their first-ever mammogram — a fact we are proud to celebrate! It’s clear our efforts to promote women’s health, and to reach women in need of these screening services, were effective.
UMB’s work with the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine is just one example of our commitment to the St. Louis community and to finding a cure for cancer. I am a proud member of the Missouri Chapter of CEOs Against Cancer‡, which is an amazing American Cancer Society‡ program that brings together executives from different companies and industries to help make an impact in local communities. Together, we use our passion, expertise and resources to raise awareness and find solutions to eradicate cancer.
I’m so passionate about this cause and am committed to the American Cancer Society’s mission to save lives, celebrate lives and lead the fight for a world without breast cancer. I encourage people to get involved to help raise awareness and to help save more lives.
